Acting Gov. Ipulasi statement on death of
SPC Avealalo Milo in Iraq

(UTULEI) -  Acting Governor Ipulasi Aitofele Sunia today issued a statement on hearing of the death of another Samoan soldier in Iraq.

STATEMENT

“On behalf of Governor Togiola Tulafono and the people and government of American Samoa, I offer my profound sympathy to the family of U.S. Army Specialist Avealalo Milo, who gave his life with honor to protect our nation and our island home.

Specialist Milo, 23 years - old, was killed in action on Thursday, October 4th while engaged with enemy forces in Baghdad, Iraq.

SPC Milo is the son of Mr. Mareko Milo and Mrs. Folola Milo of Malaeimi, American Samoa and Vaivase, Samoa. He has two sisters and a brother. He joined the U.S. Army in 2005 and was stationed at Fort Irwin in Barstow, California before being deployed to Iraq. SPC Milo had been married for only three months to his wife Joshlyn Milo.

Specialist Milo attended one year at Samoana High School as a freshman in 1997 before completing his studies at Lepa School in Samoa in 2001. He moved to California in 2003, where he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2005.

Specialist Milo’s bravery and sacrifice will always be remembered as he willingly served America and protected the freedom of the world, while fighting to restore the freedom of another land.

I ask all of American Samoa to unite in prayer for the comfort of his family during this painful time. Our sincerest condolences go out to his parents, Mareko and Folola, to his widow – Joshlyn, his sisters, his brother and the entire Milo family. May God’s grace provide us all with comfort during this time of grief.”

Specialist Milo was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry regiment, 1st Armored Division in Vilseck, Germany.
