(UTULEI) – American Samoa Wrestling Association South Pacific Games bronze medallists today expressed their appreciation for Governor Togiola Tulafono’s support during a courtesy call on the Territory’s Chief Executive at the Office of the Governor.
"Our young people of the American Samoa Wrestling Association join me to say thank you, Governor, for your support to our sports organization,” said Mapu Jamias, president of the association. “Considering that our association is very young and new, four bronze medals is not bad hardware to start off with and bring home.”
Nathaniel Tuamoheloa of Ili’ili, a 13 year-old eighth grader at Lupelele Elementary School, won two bronze medals in both events of the 55 Kilo (121 lbs.) Greco Roman and Freestyle weight classes.
Eighteen year-old Perekina Peneueta of Pava’ia’i, a freshman at ASCC, took the bronze medal in the 84 Kilo (184 lbs.) weight class.
Nathan Lake of Se’etaga, technical support staffer at Blue Sky Communications, received his bronze medal in the 96 Kilo (211 lbs) Freestyle weight class.
Also present during the call on the Governor, who participated at the South Pacific Games, but did not win medals, were Val Tapusoa,15, a sophomore at Kanana Fou High School from Fa’ilolo, and Nation Tilo, 16, an 11th grader at Kanana Fou High, from Aua and Ili’ili.
Governor Togiola offered his best wishes to the young wrestlers on their accomplishments and encouraged them to work hard and aim high in their sports pursuits.
“I want to congratulate you on your participation and in representing American Samoa at the Games,’ said Governor Togiola. “For your very first efforts at our regional games, this is a big accomplishment and I thank you for your commitment.”
In saying thank you to the young wrestlers, Governor Togiola gave words of encouragement and motivation in saying “it all begins with taking care of your health.
“Staying fit is the key and working hard to stay healthy by eating right and exercising,” said Governor Togiola. “Stay active and you must understand that you get back what you give to your commitment. You give a lot and you get back a lot. And we all know it’s also more than staying fit. Honesty, integrity and sportsmanship play an integral role in sport. So, work hard and play by the rules.”
