Gov. Togiola announces three big grants for Tafuna Family Health Center
(UTULEI) - Governor Togiola Tulafono today announced from Washington DC that the Tafuna Family Health Center will receive half-a-million dollars per year for the next five years from the US Department of Health and Human Services – Health Resources and Services Administration’s competitive grant award.
Also, Governor Togiola announced that Tafuna Family Health Center will receive an additional $473,000 for two years as part of the Increased Demand for Community Health Center Services (IDS) from the Stimulus Recovery grant.
Governor Togiola said there was even more money awarded, with Leone and Amouli Dispensaries getting $1.3 million, also from the Recovery funds.
Governor Togiola expressed his happiness for all the hard work by the Department of Health and the Tafuna Family Heath Center.
“This is excellent work and I wish to offer my congratulations to Acting Director Tuiasina Dr. Salamo Laumoli and the Tafuna Family Heath Center Executive Director Ofeira Nu’usolia for all their efforts to keep the Health Center operating and also for providing excellent health care of our people,’ said Governor Togiola. “Considering our economic situation, this is wonderful news to have funds for the Health Center operations and it is also great news for our dispensaries; it’s a breath of fresh air to get this five year funding for the Health Center and I would also like to commend the Tafuna Family Health Center Governing Board and Chairman David Tupua and his directors, former Director Uto’ofili Asofa’afetai Maga, Clinical Director Dr. John Tuitele, management and staff for marvelous teamwork and great support.”
Governor Togiola said he was also informed that Tafuna Family Health Center is eligible for $770,000 for a renovation grant through the Recovery Act.
“We continue to receive good news and I am sure that Acting Director Tuiasina, Executive Director Nu’usolia, the TFHC Board, management and staff will again do a great job to secure this funding, and I thank you again and offer you my support as you seek more ways to improve primary health care in American Samoa and the funding that we desperately need.”
