New Pediatric Ward opens at the LBJ Medical Center

A new, more modern Pediatric Ward had been dedicated at the territory’s only hospital.

The Pediatric Ward is the second one at the LBJ Medical Center to undergo major renovation work. The first ward to get a complete makeover was the Surgical Ward which was rebuilt two years ago.

During her comments at the dedication ceremony, LBJ CEO Patricia Tindall praised the work of United Construction Company which was contracted to carry out the estimated $800,000-dollar project.

Tindall said the new Pediatric Ward was constructed according to stringent federal regulations, and the end result is a ward that rivals that of any in the US mainland.

Tindall explained that there a lot of the new features in the ward that are not visible to visitors, features that include a safety sprinkler system, air conditioning, special windows, and electrical work.

The ward will be furnished with new beds, bed tables, and side tables which are part of a shipment of hospital equipment purchased with a $1.7 million appropriation that was approved by the Governor and Fono earlier in the year.

The dedication ceremony for the new ward was witnessed by many government officials, Cabinet members, and hospital staff and employees, including First Lady Maryann Tulafono who cut the ribbon to officially mark the opening of the new ward.
