Togiola to undertake scuba diving training

Who says the Chief Executive of the American Samoa Government doesn’t have time for a little fun and adventure?

Governor Togiola Tulafono has received a copy of the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) manual for diving and now all that’s left to do is await the return of the instructor from the US before Togiola squeezes into a wet suit and plunges in to the deep blue sea to explore the beauty and wonders of underwater life.

The Governor’s decision to take on scuba diving training was announced during the recent 18th meeting of the US Coral Reef Task Force.

Although training is yet to start, Togiola is expected to make good on his claim as according to him, actual lessons will most likely commence after he returns from his next trip to Guam.

Togiola’s training is necessary in order for him to fulfill his wish of joining Dr. Russell Brainard [Coral Reef Ecosystem Division, Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, NOAA, Honolulu, HI] and his team aboard the Alakai on their visits of the Swains Islands and Rose Atoll.

“This will give me the opportunity to visit all the islands of American Samoa,” Togiola concluded.
