MISSION STATEMENT

Consistent with the values of a democratic society, it is the mission of the Department of Public Safety to protect the community from crime and disorder. To accomplish this mission, the department's role is to fairly and impartially enforce the law within the limits of police, fire, and corrections authorities while upholding the constitutional rights of all citizens by the preservation of public peace, maintaining law and order, protection of the rights of persons and property, prevention of crime, and valuing our employees as our most important resource.

The department's mission is reinforced by the commitment to the philosophy of "Change Through Participation" which focuses on encouraging broad citizen and personnel teamwork in order to improve further the delivery of a quality public safety program for citizens. Citizen participation has significantly contributed to the success of our Community Policing program and has helped in keeping the community safe.
