(UTULEI: Monday, January 25, 2010) – Governor Togiola Tulafono returned on Sunday night to the Territory from meetings in Thailand and Honolulu.
In Bangkok on January 18, 2010, Governor Togiola met with Chicken of the Sea Incorporated (COS) board member Mr. Thirapong Chansiri to discuss the future of the COS Samoa Packing facilities in American Samoa.
"We offered to work together in partnership. We put our issues on the table
and described our interest in working together toward a mutually beneficial solution," said Governor Togiola. "Mr. Chansiri expressed an interest in following up with his management team regarding the American Samoa Government's proposal. We expect to hear back from Chicken of the Sea on their official response to our proposal.”
Governor Togiola said he is hopeful that Chicken of the Sea will come back with a statement on how they can make the proposal work for both ASG and COS.
“We will await Chicken of the Sea's response and continue in the meantime to prepare ourselves to restore business and offer employment again by utilizing the plant,” said Governor Togiola. “I wish to express my gratitude to Mr. Chansiri and COS for the opportunity to meet in Bangkok."
