Indonesia Ambassador to U.S. pays courtesy call to Governor Togiola
(UTULEI) - Indonesia Ambassador to the United States – His Excellency Sudjadnan Parnohadiningrat paid a courtesy call to Governor Togiola Tulafono today to express his sincere gratitude for facilitating the smooth departure of the 42 Indonesian fishermen who were stranded in the Territory because of ongoing discussions between the fishing vessel agent and the fishermen on details to their return to Jakarta.
Ambassador Sudjadnan, who arrived Thursday night from Washington DC, said “I wish to offer words of thanks to you Governor Togiola for your kind assistance to our fishermen in ensuring their proper treatment and safe return to Indonesia. Your actions indicate the highest level of support in helping my fellow countrymen.”
“I would like to say thank you for coming to American Samoa and I look forward to visiting Indonesia one day. I am proud to say that should this situation reoccur, we are committed to offer assistance and take appropriate actions that will ensure the safety of your citizens in the Territory,” Governor Togiola.
Ambassador Sudjadnan said he has enjoyed the tour of Tutuila and he was amazed at the similarities of Indonesia and American Samoa, considering being on the same latitude. He said there are 5 Indonesian nationals residing in the Territory and he hopes “they will contribute in being part of your island community.”
Governor Togiola will host a private dinner in honor Ambassador Sudjadnan on Saturday.
The Ambassador will depart American Samoa on Sunday night.
