Governor Togiola kicks off inaugural Moso’oi Rugby Sevens
(UTULEI) - Governor Togiola Tulafono today opened the inaugural Moso’oi Rugby Sevens tournament at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Tafuna.
Governor Togiola joined tournament and rugby sports body officials Leroy Lutu, Aumavae Tom, Rep. Puletu Dick Koko and Ta’afano Joe Tavale to kick-off the sporting event for the Territory’s Moso’oi Festival.
“I want to congratulate you and say thank you to our rugby sports body and all of the nine teams taking part in this inaugural Moso’oi Sevens Tournament. Your commitment and dedication is a demonstration of how highly you value your sport, your participants and the enjoyment that rugby provides in encouraging fellowship, sportsmanship and the spirit of competition,” said Governor Togiola. “I truly know that it is important to you that winning is important. But, please accept that good sportsmanship along with respect for the opposing team, your teammates and your game officials is much more important.”
Governor Togiola said what is just as important is teamwork and setting a good example.
“Playing sports also develops your leadership ability. Be proud examples to all youngsters who will come to watch you and emulate how you play. Be great role models and always display good conduct and character,” said Governor Togiola. “I encourage you to play hard, play fair, and play by the rules. Play as brothers. By playing as brothers will determine the success of this tournament and also of your participation.”
