Gov. Togiola transported to Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu
 (HONOLULU) – Governor Togiola Tulafono was evacuated to Honolulu, Hawaii on Wednesday, January 16 when conditions and issues arising after a successful emergency appendectomy at LBJ Medical Center in American Samoa on January 6.
While recovering from surgery, the Governor began to experience what seemed to be an allergic reaction. Emergency treatment for the allergy was initiated, but the situation worsened through January 7. The Governor’s situation improved on January 8, but he continued to have issues throughout the week.
On January 13, a mutual agreement was made by doctors at LBJ Medical Center and the Governor that a second surgery was required and was performed immediately early Monday morning, January 14.
Unfortunately, some of the same critical issues remained unresolved, and perhaps life threatening to the Governor, and the limited resources at home being stretched to the limit.
Accordingly, the Governor was evacuated to Honolulu, Hawaii, on January 16, and admitted to the Tripler Army Medical Center. The Governor’s condition has improved since his arrival and he remains under observation in guarded condition.
