Territory awarded grant of $615,364 from the US Department of Justice

American Samoa has been awarded a $615,364 grant from the US Justice Department’s Office on Violence Against Women, under the Services, Training, Officers, Prosecutor (STOP) program.

The territory’s award is part of a $114 million formula award under the STOP program granted to states and territories to support comprehensive strategies addressing violence against women.

When it released the full list of award recipients, the federal agency explained that the funding to the communities will improve coordination between law enforcement, prosecution, and courts, and strengthen victim services.

Award recipients are required to meet one or more of the 14 statutory purpose areas, which include but not limited to training law enforcement officers, judges, court personnel and prosecutors; developing, enlarging, or strengthening victim services programs; developing, installing or expanding data collection, as well as developing, enlarging, or strengthening programs that address stalking.
