DOE announces names of District Teachers and Territorial Teacher of the Year

The Department of Education is honoring Murali Gopaln, a science teacher at Leone High School, as this year’s Territorial Teacher of the Year. Gopaln was named the Western Fautasi District Teacher of the Year.

DOE said Gopaln is a primary example of excellent teachers who instill an intellectual curiosity in the students whose lives he touched.

“We commend you for the compassionate and enthusiastic service you bring to the classroom and the marked difference you made in the lives of our children,” said a statement from DOE. “Congratulations and once again, thank you for making a difference in the lives of our children.”

DOE also publicly congratulated all district teachers for being finalists for the Territorial Teacher of the Year award. “This is a very prestigious award, and it is a great honor to be among the finalists for this year’s award,” DOE wrote. “We have so many outstanding teachers in our schools today, and as a finalist, you represent the dedicated and talented teachers who each day ensures that our students obtain the highest quality education possible.”

District Teacher of the Year winners include SFC Willie Togafau (Central District), Siaosi Siaosi (Manu’a District), Tailua Moemoe (ECE District), Guinevere Eves (Aiga Potopoto District), and Lizzie Sauni (Eastern District).

DOE congratulated all the teachers of the year from the secondary, elementary, and early childhood education and thanked them for their dedication, hard work, and commitment “that have made a tremendous difference in the continuous educational achievement of the students in the territory.”
