DOI-CIP funds new pipeline from Nuuuli to Fagaalu
The American Samoa Power Authority has announced that the 16-inch diameter PVC pipeline from Coconut Point in Nuuuli to the Fagaalu Booster Station will finally be commissioned after the initial flushing, disinfection, and final flushing starting Friday, November 28 to December 1.
The new line was funded by the Department on Interior, Capital Improvement Projects (DOI-CIP).
The pipeline will replace the existing 12-inch diameter asbestos cement pipe that is currently servicing the Nuuuli-Fagaalu area. The 12-inch line will still be in operation until such time the existing service lines have been transferred to the new 16-inch PVC pipeline.
According to ASPA, the new line will greatly improve the flow of the ASPA water system into the Bay Area and beyond.
The project is part of the Bay Area Water Facilities Plan, a project funded by both DOI-CIP and the US Environmental Protection Agency.
ASPA wants to inform the public that with the commencement of the project, residents may experience low water pressure, specifically in the Nuuuli to Utulei area.
“We respectfully ask for your patience and understanding as we work to improve the ASPA water supply system for the territory,” said ASPA.
