Stimulus Recovery Bill to benefit local residents who receive social security

03/08/2009 - Locals who are recipients of social security benefits may qualify to receive a one-time payment from the Social Security Administration (SSA) under a provision of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, commonly referred to as the stimulus recovery bill.

The one-time payment is for $250, and complete details on the eligibility criteria will be released soon.

According to the SSA, everyone who is entitled to a payment is expected to receive their payment by late May 2009. No action is required on the part of the recipient. The SSA is currently working on the details of  how they will issue a total of nearly $55 million in one-time payments to their beneficiaries.

Currently, there are an estimated 5,000 social security recipients in the territory.
