Chief and Commanding General Lieutenant General Jody J. Daniels Visits American Samoa
On March 31st, 2023, Honorable Lemanu P. S. Mauga, Governor of American Samoa, First Lady Ella Mauga, and esteemed members of the American Samoa Government, hosted a traditional Ava Ceremony to welcome Lieutenant General (LTG) Jody J. Daniels and Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Andrew Lambardo of the United States Army Reserve and Command, IndoPacific Command mission. During the Ava Ceremony, Governor Lemanu expressed his gratitude to LTG Daniels for her visit. “It is an honor to meet the very first woman to serve as Chief and Commanding General of the US Army Reserve,” remarked Governor Lemanu. “We thank you, and CSM Lombardo, and your team for your service and for visiting with the soldiers of American Samoa,” . . . .
First Lady Ella and Good Lady Marian Hosts Dinner in Honor of Women’s History Month
On March 30th, 2023, First Lady Ella Mauga and Good Lady Marian Ale hosted the culmination event in honor of Women's History Month at the Rex H. Lee Auditorium in Utulei. The theme of the evening was “Celebrating Women Who Tell Stories,” or “Fa’atauaina o Tina ma Tama’ita’i ma o latou sao.” Women of various communities of American Samoa were in attendance, and the guest of honor from the Independent State of Samoa, Afioga Filifilia Tamasese, Masiofo Tama Aiga Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi. The Master of Ceremonies Peseta Tia Seloti anchored the ceremony for the evening. The Invocation and Benediction was conducted by Faletua Patricia Fuiava. A special tribute presentation and musical selection was performed by First Lady Ella to celebrate the women pioneers of the past. She remarked,“Women are the epitome of strength and courage, and are the true architects of our society. The bravery and sacrifice the Samoan women make is reflected in the biblical story of Queen Esther to Mordecai when she quoted ‘And if I perish, I perish.’ ” First Lady Ella continued, “Many women who constructed our way of life are no longer present, but their dedication reverberates in our communities today. American Samoa was built on their wisdom and their whispers of encouragement.”
Pago Pago International Airport Apron Rehabilitation Project Completed Under the Lemanu-Talauega Administration
On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, the Department of Port Administration, under the leadership of Director Falenaoti Loi-On Fruean, hosted the dedication ceremony to commemorate the completion of the Pago Pago International Airport Apron Rehabilitation Project. Many in attendance included Honorable Lemanu P.S. Mauga, Honorable Talauega E.V. Ale, Honorable Senate President Tuaolo Fruean, honored guests, and several members of the cabinet.
Collaborative Efforts Between Lemanu-Talauega Administration and CCCAS Kanana Fou for Improved Access Routes
​On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, the CCCAS Kanana Fou, Ua Taunu’u held its dedication ceremony to commemorate the completion of several projects on the compound, to include the Kanana Fou High School Access Road. With the collaborative efforts of both the congregation and the Lemanu-Talauega Administration, the access road will allow for improved accessibility for emergency evacuations routes for both Kanana Fou High School and Kanana Fou Elementary. This route also opens into emergency evacuation routes for Tafuna High School, Tafuna Elementary, and South Pacific Academy. It was shared at the dedication ceremony that the increase of natural disasters in the South Pacific region has prompted the church and government to act swiftly on the matter.

Samoan Language Commission Church Service
On Sunday, March 19, 2023, the Samoan Language Commission held a church service at the CCCAS Matu’u and Faganeanea, to commemorate a culmination of activities and workshops to celebrate this year’s Samoan Language Month. Many in attendance included Honorable Lemanu P.S. Mauga, Honorable Talauega E.V. Ale, members of the fono, cabinet, and the commission. Also in attendance were various congregations from the Catholic Church Iliili, and the Susana Uesile Methodist Church in Tafuna.
Governor Lemanu and First Lady meet with Williams Family
While in Washington, DC for the National Governors Association (NGA) Winter Meeting and the IGIA, Governor Lemanu, First Lady Ella, and a few cabinet members and Governor’s staff were hosted in a dinner by the Williams family at their beautiful home in Alexandria, Virginia. Michael Williams, married to Julin of the Mulitauaopele family of Lauli’i, American Samoa, was the lead counsel and counsel of record to the American Samoa Government in the Tuaua v. United States case which was filed in 2012.
