ODAPM Kicks Off First Annual Disaster Resilience Summit in American Samoa
On September 27, 2022, the Office of Disaster Assistance and Petroleum Management (ODAPM) held an opening ceremony for the First Annual Amerika Samoa Disaster Resilience Summit at the Rex H. Lee Auditorium in Utulei.

Acting Governor Talauega Welcomes Director Robert Pesapane of FEMA
Acting Governor Talauega E. V. Ale welcomed Director Robert Pesapane, FEMA Recovery Division Region IX upon his arrival on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Tafuna International Airport. “Although I have to depart the territory tonight, I am honored to have gotten the opportunity to meet you in person, and I am excited for your presence here in American Samoa. I wish you and Director Lisa, and our local and Federal partners all the best during the Summit,” stated Acting Governor Talauega. Director Pesapane is on island to attend the 1st Annual Disaster Resilience Summit from September 27-29, hosted by Director Lisa Tuato’o and the Office of Disaster Assistance and Petroleum Management.

Acting Governor Talauega aLE Attends SEVERAL Major Events
On Friday, September 23, 2022, the Lyndon B. Johnson Tropical Medical Center held its Service Awards Banquet at the Governor Rex. E. Lee Auditorium. The theme of the evening was “Celebrating You.”

On Saturday, September 24, 2022, the Department of Commerce concluded the Jubilee Celebration commemorating 50 years since the signing of the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA).

On Sunday, September 25, 2022, the Department of Health opened up the month-long Women’s Health Island-Wide Campaign with a church service held at the Ave Fetu Ao Methodist Church located in Fagaima.

GOVERNOR LEMANU ATTENDS PACIFIC ISLAND CONFERENCE OF LEADERS
The Pacific Island Development Program (PIDP) along with the East-West Center, hosted the “Pu’uhonua: The Pacific Way Forward,” the 12th Pacific Islands Conference of Leaders (PICL) from September 12 through the 14 The Honorable Lemanu P.S. Mauga is attended virtually.

“This is an opportune time for esteemed leaders to specifically address unique issues faced as a Pacific Region,” stated Governor Lemanu during the conference. He continued, “Although each island nation is individually working through critical concerns of their own, our Pacific Culture brings us as one to collectively be the voice of our people and our future generations. We must come together to discuss these prime issues, and continue to work towards a prosperous future for the whole Pasefika.”
Alataua II and Manulele Tausala dedications
On Tuesday, September 06, 2022, the Department of Education held grand opening ceremonies for Alataua II Elementary School building and Manulele Tausala Elementary School Gymnasium. (Pictured above) First Lady Ella Mauga during the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Alataua II Elementary School and (pictured below) the new Manulele Tausala Elementary School gymnasium. Governor Lemanu stated, “Our students deserve to be in an educational environment in which they can thrive. In these classrooms we have before us our future Governor, our next Congresswoman, and rising artists. It is also important that their facilities are maintained well for future generations."
